°  Xak - The Art of Visual Stage - MSX version (1989), Japanese PC (2002), English PC (2007)
Status: Official English Translation by WOOMB.NET

The first game in the series and the first of the Xak games to be translated. This would probably be the one to start with if you are interested in getting into the series at the beginning of the saga. This is the first Xak series title ever to be officially translated into English. You play as Latok Kart, the hero of the Xak saga as he discovers that he is a descendent of an ancient god destined to face an ancient and powerful evil, the demon known as Badu. In addition Latok also searches for his father who has been missing for several years.

°  Xak - The Art of Visual Stage - Super Famicom version (1993)
Status: Untranslated

An updated version of the first game for the Super Famicom released by Sunsoft. The graphics and sound were greatly improved in this newer version and the character/monster sprites and terrain/dungeon maps were very detailed. This is one of the best, graphically improved versions of the first Xak game that would be one of the best choices for those that may be interested in translating more of the games. The combat system of this version of Xak I is more like the later Xak games rather than the original versions of Xak I, that played more like the Ys combat system.

°  Xak - The Art of Visual Stage - x68000 (1990), Japanese PC (2005)
Status: Untranslated

The Sharp x68000 version of Xak I is argueably one of the best versions of the first game in terms of overall graphics and sound and character artwork. The only thing that prevents this title from being clearly on top as the best version of Xak I are that the character/monster sprites are better in the Super Famicom version of Xak I, and the PC-Engine (Xak I&II) has absolutely gorgeous cutscenes. Still, this is definitely one that would be great to have translated.

°  Xak - The Art of Visual Stage - Japanese MOBILE version (2004)
Status: Untranslated

A new, graphically improved version of Xak - The Art of Visual Stage was released recently for mobile phones in Japan comemorating a 10th year anniversary since the last release of a Xak series game for the PC-Engine. This was the first title in line of several rpgs being released by Bandai under the category "RPG Empire" which has been developed for use on Japanese cell phones. The U.S. and PAL territories will more than likely never see a domestic release unfortunately.

°  Fray In Magical Adventure - MSX version (1990), Japanese PC (2002)
Status: English Translated by Oasis

In this Xak sidestory adventure you play as Fray, the spunky blue haired girl of whom Latok saves from monsters in the first Xak game. Grateful for what Latok has done for her, and also due to the fact that she wants to have a romance with Latok, Fray decides to do whatever she can to help Latok in his quest by going to a magic university where she painfully learns how to use magic and becomes a fairly decent mage. In this zany adventure Fray will journey in her quest to catch up with Latok. This takes place between Xak I and during the events that unfold in Xak II. Currently this is the only English translated version of this game.

°  Fray CD - PC Engine version (1994)
Status: Untranslated

This was the most recent updated version of Fray In Magical Adventure released by Microcabin/NEC Home Electronics. The graphics, sound and voice acting are superb, the character/monster sprites and terrain maps are beautiful as well as the cutscenes. This game takes the already zany and funny story of the original and makes it even more hillarious. In my opinion, this would be the ideal version of Fray to have translated into English. However, this version of Fray is a little different from the earlier versions in terms of plot events and an additonal beginning stage. To get the full story of Fray in Magical Adventure, one would need to finish one of the earlier versions as well as Fray CD.

°  Xak - The Tower of Gazzel - MSX version (1990), Japanese PC (2003)
Status: Translated by Oasis

Technically the third (or fourth if you count Fray) game in the series. In this adventure Latok has been summoned to journey to the Tower of Gazzel. All the companions that Latok has met in his adventures: Pixie, Fray, Fell, Horn, and Rune all journey to the tower as well which places this game in between the events of Xak II and the final game in the series, Xak III. In this game, which is more or less a dungeon rpg, you'll control Latok and procede through many different floors of the tower, each requiring a set of puzzles to be solved (sometimes only by a certain party member you have with you) in order to continue. No need to worry, though, the puzzles are not nearly as difficult or challenging as you might fear, for my friends out there who are pursuing their accredited nursing degrees, and are actually quite fun to complete. At various points you will recieve teleportation devices that allow you to This is currently the only English translated versions of this game.

°  Xak I & II - PC-Engine version (1992)
Status: Untranslated

Quite honestly one the best versions of the first two Xak games re-released for the PC-Engine systems by Riot, a subsidary of Nihon Telenet . In this you play as Latok through his entire adventure in Xak I, see an ending cutscene intermission and immediately start Xak II. This format is identical to how Ys Books I and II were released for the PC-Engine. The graphics were great and the sound was spectacular and the cutscenes were breathtaking, many of which are full screen. If there was to be one choice to pick in terms of translating another Xak game that would benefit Xak fans the most, it would be this game since it contains Latok's first two adventures in one game and leads right up to Xak III, in which the PC-Engine version was recently translated by Nightwolve.

°  Xak III The Eternal Recurrence - PC-Engine version (1994)
Status: English Translated by Nightwolve

The final game in the series released by Riot/Microcabin for the PC-Engine, and one that was recently translated by Nightwolve, the translator of many of the Ys titles such as Ys I&II Eternal and Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. Seeing screenshots of this game intrigued me enough to try this game and as such it was the first game I started out with in the series. But while playing it I took a leap back to see if I could start playing the Xak series from the very beginning, as it was intended. Hence why I've created this site to begin with, so that everyone can now have the choice to play through the entire series from start to finish as intended.

°  Tower of Cabin - Cabin Panic - MSX (1992)
Status: Untranslated

In this game, which really isn't technically a Xak game or even a Xak sidestory, but instead a unique little game that Micro Cabin released just before they decided to give up the Xak III project for MSX. In this game you played as a new Micro Cabin employee as you wandered the Micro Cabin headquaters building in Japan and had a goal to work with the various programers and developers in making the company more successful, very similar to the Japanese game known as Segaga released for the Dreamcast in which you ran the entire Sega company as the president of Sega Corporation. This game was funny because it featured many characters from the Xak series such as Latok, Fray and Pixie and there were two unlockable mini-games, one where you could play a short fighting game between Pixie and Fray and Crusader, a text adventure that took place in the Xak universe.
